The EV Innovators Club: Empowering the Next Generation

In a rapidly evolving transportation landscape, hands-on STEM education is more critical than ever. Launching nationwide, Summer 2025, the Legacy EV Innovators Club is leading the charge, offering students a unique, project-based learning experience that immerses them in electric vehicle (EV) technology. This program is designed to equip middle and high school students with real-world skills in electrical engineering, powertrain design, and sustainable transportation—transforming classrooms into innovation hubs.

What is the EV Innovators Club?

The EV Innovators Club provides students with a structured, hands-on introduction to EV technology. Through an engaging curriculum and hands-on projects, participants gain practical skills while fostering a passion for STEM careers. A key feature of the program is that students build and drive their own electric go-kart, making learning fun, interactive, and applicable to real-world technology.

 What’s Included?

  •  Electric Go-Kart Kit – A complete set of parts, tools, and components to build a fully functional electric go-kart.
  • Comprehensive Curriculum – Instructor-led lesson plans aligned with industry standards, gamified learning activities, and real-world problem-solving exercises.
  • Hands-On Learning & Career Exposure – Students explore STEM concepts through project-based learning, interact with industry professionals, and gain insight into careers in e-mobility.

How It Works

  1. LEARN – Students engage in interactive lessons covering EV fundamentals.
  2. BUILD – Step-by-step guidance helps them assemble their electric go-karts.
  3. DRIVE – Completed go-karts are tested and analyzed for energy efficiency and performance.

Why This Program Matters

The EV Innovators Club isn’t just about building electric go-karts—it’s about equipping students with the technical knowledge and problem-solving skills necessary for careers in the rapidly growing EV industry. Participants develop expertise in electrical circuits, powertrains, and vehicle design, all while gaining teamwork, leadership, and creative problem-solving experience.

Industry professionals play a key role in the program by offering mentorship and career insights. Students don’t just learn about EV technology; they see first-hand how their skills can translate into real-world job opportunities.

Proven Success: The Maricopa County Initiative

One of the most successful implementations of the EV Innovators Club took place in Maricopa County, Arizona, in 2024. Partnering with Maricopa County Superintendent Steve Watson, Legacy EV introduced the program to local schools, where students spent four months learning about EV history, engineering principles, and go-kart construction. The impact was profound, with students not only developing technical skills but also gaining confidence in their ability to innovate and problem-solve.

Shining at the APS Light Parade

The power of hands-on learning was on full display at the 2024 APS Light Parade in Phoenix. Among the 120+ parade entries, 16 student-built electric go-karts took center stage, showcasing both technical ingenuity and creativity to an audience of 75,000 spectators. But the most inspiring moment came when Josh Chilton, Community Outreach Coordinator for Maricopa County, asked students if they were considering careers in e-mobility—more than half raised their hands.

This moment underscored the club’s mission: to inspire and prepare the next generation of EV leaders.

Expanding Nationwide in 2025

Following its success in Maricopa County, Legacy EV is expanding the Innovators Club to school districts across the country starting Summer 2025. Schools now have the opportunity to integrate this transformative learning experience into their STEM programs.
