Are We Witnessing the End of the EV Era? If electrical vehicle production were to come to a complete halt, it would not be the first time EVs failed to capture a foothold in the automotive market. In fact, it would be more like the third or fourth time. So, amidst some of the negative EV news that has come about in the last few months, are we still bullish on the idea that EVs are here to stay? To understand our take on that question, let’s dive a little deeper into recent EV news. Ford has reportedly lost $36K on every EV it sold, and Rivian is not too far off with a $32K loss on every truck and SUV it has sold. We have seen multiple EV manufacturers from ultra light-duty vehicles, to medium-duty vans and trucks, to heavy-duty buses all experience extremely public failures from canceling product lines and never delivering vehicles to going out of business. In the wake of these public failures, major automakers are planning to ramp down production citing high production costs, low demand, and a limited trained workforce. With all this in mind, should we expect a slow-down for EV adoption in the aftermarket? After all, that’s what EV Builder’s Guide is all about! This publication is all about taking EV technology and aftermarket performance to the edge and beyond! Well, for decades now, the EV aftermarket has been driven by consumer adoption. EV technology has attracted customers and builders alike for the performance potential and in some cases, the reduced tailpipe emissions (but let’s be real, most of you are here for the burn-outs). So while OEMs and government mandates are faced with the realization that you can’t just “flip a switch” and go from ICE to EV, the growth of aftermarket EV has been increasing year over year even without the same access to tax incentives offered up to the OEMs. Now, we are not here to take a political position on EV policy, but instead merely acknowledge the badass builds you have seen across seven issues of this book. These builds have been brought to life because someone wanted that vehicle built, not because of a tax break or a mandate. Regardless of the negative chatter, we stand bullish on the demand for cutting-edge technology and the sentiment that EV technology offers sustainability without the sacrifice of performance. Let that sink in… Sustainability without the sacrifice of performance. Lean in and pioneer this technology into the future—it’s there for the taking! ABOUT ROB AND MAV Rob and Mavrick are the co-founders of Legacy EV, an aftermarket EV parts supplier and training provider. Rob is a lifelong gearhead converted to EV enthusiast because of the performance that the powertrain provides, while Mav has been driving EVs since they only had a 72-mile range (a bit of an early adopter you could say). Together they bring the yin and yang of hype and realism, burn-outs and earth-day parades, that help Legacy EV be the industry leader that it is today.
