Austin, Texas, recently hosted the last 2023 edition of Electrify Expo, a landmark event in North America’s electric vehicle landscape. Held at the iconic Circuit of the Americas, this festival marked its third year with more than 20,000 demo rides. Visitors experienced a diverse range of electric vehicles, e-bikes, and e-scooters, reflecting the growing appeal of electric mobility. From major automotive brands to innovative startups, the event was a showcase of the latest advancements in electric vehicles and sustainable technology—and more than ever, converted-to-EV classic were well represented. The festival plays a crucial role in overcoming a major hurdle in EV adoption – providing firsthand experiences through meaningful demonstrations and test rides. 

Moment Motor Company showcased an array of classic beauties, featuring vehicles like a 1956 Porsche Speedster replica from Vintage Motor Cars, a 1966 Mercedes 230 SL, a 1985 BMW 635 CSI, and a 1961 Austin Healey 3000. These vehicles highlighted the enduring charm and elegance of vintage cars coupled with cutting edge conversion system, all manufactured in-house in Austin, Texas.

Major Highlights OEMs

Top automotive manufacturers like BMW, Ford, Lexus, and Porsche took center stage at the Expo, unveiling their latest electric models. BMW displayed models like the IX xDrive50, while Ford amazed visitors with the high-powered Super Van. Porsche’s 75-year legacy was celebrated with their electric offerings like the Taycan GTS.

Ampere EV showcased its ready-to-ship Atom Drive System, a versatile electric drivetrain adaptable with various battery options, motor specs, and configuration settings like inline or transaxle layouts. The system includes advanced features like a touchscreen display, DC fast charging, cabin heating, air conditioning, and battery heating. Highlighting its technology, Ampere EV displayed a 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera retrofitted with a 42 kWh Atom Drive System, Tesla power unit, fast charging, an 8-inch touchscreen, AC, and power steering.

Beyond viewing the latest models, attendees engaged in interactive experiences, including test drives on the Formula 1 race track. Brands like Polestar, Mitsubishi, and VinFast offered hands-on driving experiences, allowing visitors to feel the performance and innovation firsthand. Furthermore, educational sessions by Austin Energy and Chargely App provided insights on efficient charging, rebates, and addressed common EV myths.

A highlight of the Expo was the Electrify Showoff, featuring over 80 custom EVs, including cars, trucks, and bikes, demonstrating the creativity in EV conversions. Additionally, the unexpected appearance of the Tesla Cybertruck created a buzz, showcasing the excitement surrounding new electric models. It clearly became the highlight at Electrify Expo Austin, captivating audiences with its futuristic look, making a significant impact on visitors. In a surprising move, the Cybertruck featured in a 20-minute live Instagram stream touring the Circuit of the Americas and creating a buzz online. Interestingly, the Cybertruck’s showcase in Austin, where Tesla’s Gigafactory Texas produces it, hinted at upcoming deliveries.

Electrify Thrill Zone: An Exhilarating Adventure

At Electrify Expo Austin, the Electrify Thrill Zone offered a heart-pounding experience for adrenaline seekers. Here, Ford presented the chance to ride in the high-powered, 1,400-horsepower Ford Mustang Mach-E. Professional driver and TV personality Collete Davis led attendees on an electrifying journey, demonstrating the impressive capabilities of this electric vehicle.

Concluding the 2023 event season with this Austin Edition, Electrify Expo’s founder and CEO BJ Birtwell announced the schedule for the 2024 event. The upcoming tour will kick off in a new location—Orlando, Florida—before making its way through Phoenix; Long Beach, California; Denver; San Francisco; Seattle; New York; and eventually returning to Austin, Texas. ​Check out the next events on ElectrifyExpo.com.

The Porsche booth elegantly showcased its 75-year history, featuring the Taycan GTS, Panamera 4SE Hybrid, and its venture into e-bikes with the Porsche e-bike Cross and Sport models.
Entering the Electrify Showoff zone at Electrify Expo Austin, you’re immediately met with a stunning array of custom electric vehicles showcasing the blend of innovation and creativity in electric mobility. The entrance features the Tjin Edition Ford Mach-E Safari concept, a standout EV linked to the #COTA hashtag, symbolizing the exciting future of transport.
Conductive Classics exhibited a 1964 Ford Galaxie with a complete Tesla Model 3 powertrain swap, exemplifying its ability to transform classic cars in new ways. The team also featured a 1972 Plymouth Satellite “Project Electrollite,” captivating attendees with its innovative design, repurposing a Tesla powertrain and battery modules.

Toyo Tires showcased a range of custom EV conversions at its booth, including four by Bisimoto: a Porsche 366 Speedster, Porsche 935 “Moby X,” a 450hp 1965 Volkswagen Type 2 Van, and a Caterham Seven. Also featured was Scalar Performance’s SCR1, a 328hp Toyota GR86 EV race car. These vehicles highlighted the impressive performance potential of EVs and captivated the Electrify Expo audience.
